MVP Readiness Checklist

20 checks that help you know whether to build fast or pause and realign scope.

Discuss your project →

Problem & user

  • You have a specific problem, not a long feature wishlist
  • You know who the first user is and how they manage today without you
  • You can describe a measurable core action
  • You have one realistic channel to reach the earliest adopters

Scope

  • You have differentiated MVP vs. V1 vs. Later
  • You documented what you WILL NOT build
  • You defined a minimal onboarding
  • You listed the minimum data to store

Constraints

  • Platform decisions (web vs. mobile) are settled
  • Critical integrations are identified
  • Legal/GDPR constraints are known if relevant
  • Roles and permissions stay within a 2-3 person scope

Delivery

  • You have a plausible timeline
  • You accepted a range, not a hard number
  • You embrace iterations (releases in blocks)
  • Someone is empowered to make decisions

Success

  • You defined the success metrics
  • You know how to collect feedback (tool/process)
  • You have a maintenance plan
  • Budget/time for at least one iteration after launch is reserved

How to read the score

  • 0-11: clarify the scope before estimating
  • 12-16: solid foundations, but scope creep risk remains
  • 17-20: ready to estimate and ship

If you scored under 12, pause and prune the scope.
